iPad class goes down a storm

Get IT Together – Orkney is a partnership between Citizens Online; BT, through their Better Future programme; Highlands and Islands Enterprise; Orkney Housing Association Ltd; Scottish Government, and a variety of local partners.
In May 2013, five learners attended a free IT course in Stromness. The learners were very motivated to learn but were unsure as to how they would find the session, or if they would understand the information they were given.
The course began by showing the learners how to set up an email account and send an email. Once they had mastered this, one learner, Connie said, “well, I have achieved what I wanted to learn, to e-mail and to send photos but now I want to go further and learn more.”
As the course progressed they learn all aspects of getting online and using the internet. After learning about the internet one learner, Isabel, was able to check flights, browse local websites and shop online.
Another learner, Doris has enjoyed sharing photos, and contacting her family in the USA through Skype and Facetime.
Although the course has now ended, the learners have decided to continue to meet and go online together.
