Networking in Plymouth

Published: Sep 26th, 2013 | Author: Laura Simpson

Get IT Together – Plymouth is a partnership between Citizens Online; BT, through their Connected Society programme; Plymouth Council; Plymouth Community Healthcare, Plymouth Community Homes, and Jobcentre Plus aimed at promoting digital inclusion by getting people online and using IT.

In September 2013, the Plymouth team held a networking lunch with their local partners and stakeholders who have an interest in digital inclusion. Organisations included Plymouth Citizens Advice Bureau, JobCentre Plus, and Cosmic, an ethical IT company based in Devon.

The aim of the day was to bring together partners to explore the best way to drive forward the digital agenda across the city by close partner working. It was a chance for those partners to network and explore joint working opportunities. Importantly, it was a chance for Get IT Together Plymouth to find out how partners wanted to work with the project and what support they can offer.

The day was a great success and attendees felt that there is a real need to bring organisations together to avoid duplication of work and to share best practice. It was also felt that it is important to share resources especially with funding being limited.

Another key outcome from the day is that there is a real need for the issue of digital inclusion or exclusion to be driven forward as it affects the partners’ overall provision.

The day received positive feedback and overall partners felt the event was a really good opportunity to network.

The information gained will be used to shape the Get IT Together – Plymouth project and explore any opportunities for capacity building within the organisations.
