BT Internet Ranger Schools Award

BT Internet Ranger Schools Award

BT launch their annual Internet Rangers awards scheme, this year with an added award.

This year, for the first time, a separate award will be made to a school or a group of schools who encourage young people, up to the age of 16, to use their ICT skills to help other people learn about computers and how to surf the internet.

This is a "forward looking" award scheme to promote future activity rather than the more traditional "backward looking" recognition for work which has already been carried out.

This type of event is a very rewarding for everyone involved:

• For students, being the teacher can be bring new insights and help build confidence.

• For learners, an introduction to the internet can open up exciting possibilities; such as new ways to keep in touch with friends and family as well as access to cheaper online products and services.

• For schools, this type of event is a great example of efforts to build community cohesion.

The winning school or group of schools will receive £5,000.

Key dates:

To enter the award, schools have until Friday 15th January 2010 to plan their event and submit their application. The event must take place before the end of the 2009/10 school year. Winners will be notified of their award by Friday 12th February 2010. The winning school or schools will receive £2,500 initially and a further £2,500 on completion and evaluation of the activity.

The online application form is available at http://www.btinternetrangers.co.uk/Awards/BTInternetRangersSchoolsAward/index.htm
