Ability reports on Fix the Web

The latest edition of Ability contains an item on Citizens Online’s Fix the Web project (http://fixtheweb.wordpress.com)

Ability is the UK’s only magazine about technology for disabled people, covering the latest products for people who have problems using off-the-peg equipment. In the latest issue editor John Lamb reports from the California State University Northridge (CSUN) Technology and Persons with Disabilities Conference: the biggest assistive technology event in the world.

The magazine includes an interview with Ian Karten, a legendary figure in the IT training world, who has set up 90 centres to equip disabled people with IT skills. His life story makes fascinating reading. Also in the latest issue is Gary Flood’s take on the accessibility of this year’s high-tech must-haves and a review of the Textscout and Knfb mobile readers.

Kevin Carey, whose previous ‘Carey On’ column on disability and work was the subject of an entire edition of the BBC’s In Touch program, looks at what India can teach the rest of the world about disability rights.

Visit the website www.abilitymagazine.org.uk for additional resources including contact details for leading organisations in the IT and disability field, as well as up-to-date news. John Lamb can be contacted at john.lamb@abilitymagazine.org.uk for advice about assistive technology.
