City of London

The City of London provides local government services for the financial and commercial heart of Britain, the 'Square Mile'. It is committed to maintaining and enhancing the status of the business City as the world's leading international financial and business centre through the policies it pursues and the high standard of services it provides. Its responsibilities extend far beyond the City boundaries in that it also provides a host of additional facilities for the benefit of the nation. These range from open spaces such as Epping Forest and Hampstead Heath to the famous Barbican Arts Centre.

Digital Inclusion Team

The Digital Inclusion Team is funded by the UK Government (Communities and Local Government department) and hosted by the City of London to implement the report "Inclusion Through Innovation" published in 2005. Their focus is on how the innovative application of digital technologies, of any kind, can improve the lives and life chances of socially excluded people and deprived neighbourhoods in England.

MegaNexus

MegaNexus´s online Employment Brokerage Networks create a virtual infrastructure of employment support for a community. This enables organisations working on different projects and for different funding to work together and enable co-ordinated provision of services to local people. For example it provides Job-Seekers with the opportunity to create an online CV, a matching facility to signpost towards Employment and Training opportunities and targeted Email / SMS Alerts to relay useful information.

StartHere

StartHere is a national charity which works with public and voluntary sector organisations to improve access to information and services, especially for socially disadvantaged and digitally excluded groups. StartHere provides a technology-based information service, also called StartHere, that acts as a single starting point from where people can access the information and services they need in times of crisis or distress. StartHere touch screen kiosks are internet enabled kiosks which have basic push buttons and an easy to read screen to bring local information to local residents who do not have access to the internet.
