Northern Ireland
Internet connectivity in Northern Ireland is the lowest in the UK. EverybodyOnline aims to help these communities and individuals overcome any barriers they may have to digital technology and the Internet.
What is unique about EverybodyOnline in Northern Ireland however, is that projects are looking to focus on and engage with groups of individuals who have been identified as disadvantaged in terms of social exclusion, age or disability.
Throughout each of the programmes, the focus is to provide access to technology, while improving the literacy skills, learning opportunities or employability. That is, how people can use computers and Internet for pursing leisure interests, hobbies or for maintaining communication with relatives or friends.
Within NI, the Government has identified a number of key socially excluded groups and areas that will benefit from the EverybodyOnline programme between 2006 and 2009.
· Those with a physical disability
· Those with a learning disability
· Older people, both in their own homes and residential homes
· Socially excluded groups, within the areas of Derry/Londonderry, Fermanagh and South Tyrone
The EverybodyOnline project in Northern Ireland began work September 2006 supported BT Northern Ireland and the Department of Finance and Personnel. It officially launched in January 2007 and further information can be found on the dedicated EOL Northern Ireland website.
