St Stephen

The St Stephen project is no longer active

The EverybodyOnline project in St Stephen was the first EverybodyOnline project and launched in August 2002. The project closed in November 2004.

St Stephen in Brannel, Cornwall, is located just north of St Austell. St Stephen in Brannel was chosen to be the first EverybodyOnline pilot launch due to its low connectivity in a rural area. Before the project was launched here, there were no community centres or non-educational centres connected to the Internet.

What we did

Through a variety of activities we helped residents overcome the barriers they had to technology. Activities included:
• increasing nearby access points
• working with local partners
• increasing training opportunities
• running informal computer taster sessions
• working with community groups

We got results
Two years since the EverybodyOnline Project launched in St Stephens we have measured a 12% increase in Internet use, 6 times that of the average national increase as measured by the Office of National Statistics (February 2003 – April 2004).
